What is NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming)?

NLP is variously referred to as: the study of excellence; the science of individuality; but in my book it is a toolbox of techniques to reprogram our brain. NLP is about the way we are but also the way we can be. It enables us to reach into the subconscious mind and re-mould set programmes that may be holding back our conscious mind.

NLP – Neuro Linguistic Programming was initially created in the 1970's by a scientist and a language scholar – Richard Bandler and John Grinder.

More and more people are realising the value of NLP in enabling them to become more effective in their chosen field. In fact, NLP techniques and models are now being used in a diverse range of areas including education, business and human resources, sport, personal development and health.

NLP explores the relationships between how we think (neuro) which leads to how we communicate (linguistic) and then our patterns of behaviour and emotion (programmes). NLP is a powerful change management tool that transforms the way people think and act and can have impact both professionally and personally.

This may include, helping individuals to change limiting beliefs, habits and behaviour, facilitating people to manage states and emotions, such as anxiety and fears. Helping individuals to find meaning in life by setting achievable well-formed goals.

We can't change other people but we can change the way we feel and react to other people and the things that they do - so easing the way forward to a charmed existence!
